Together again: de-brief

It was great to get together again after the Open Day to share our ‘high points’, view Laura’s photos and discuss what to do with the material we’ve collected.

High points from the Open Day

High points included observing how the setting up transformed the hall; the moment when everything seemed really ‘buzzy’; when our visitors entered and went from apprehensive to engaged and animated. 

‘High point of the open day, well there was so many, meeting my teacher from when i was at school and having a photo taken with him ( thank you Laura).

Meeting up with an old friend who i was at school with and haven't seen for 30 years, but i suppose the most memorable was getting involved with the project its self.  Believe me when i came to the first meeting i didn't think we will never do all that in 6 weeks, but my Dad gave me some good advice years ago, he said trust in human nature as no one really wants to let others down, do your bit and trust others will do theirs, and low and behold it all went so well' Tina Heath

A reminder of the words we came up with at our first meeting to describe what we wanted our Open Day to be: creative, informative, relevant, progressive, creatively exciting, successful, welcoming, different, celebratory, inclusive, nostalgic, memorable, warm, comfortable, fun, active, something creating visual impact and buzzing.

We all agreed that we had achieved what we set out to do - fantastic!

Beccy took us through a slide show of Laura’s photos and we really enjoyed hearing some of the stories behind the pictures. Some of the original staff were there, posing with some of the first pupils. Also images of two brothers, one of whom now lives in America. 

We also enjoyed a quick look at the DVD. Not yet edited, but interesting to see how the tours really stimulated conversation, with debates over the old layout of the buildings. There was also footage of visitors showing their mementoes; a scrap book, a folk singing trophy and various school photographs.

The final end to our project will be when we present all our work to the school at morning assembly. All the students volunteered for this alongside Charlie and Keith. We spent the last few minutes of our meeting writing our presentation.

Keep building the wall of ‘memories’

Chilton Trinity has inspired great love and loyalty from its past and present pupil and staff and we hope the future school community will continue to add ‘memories’ to the wall!

Reflection of Open Day 5th March

Laura has now selected a number of people who attended the Open Day Event back on 5th March for rephotographing. Letters have been posted and emailed to those selected. Re sittings have been scheduled for Saturday 30th April and Friday 6th May.

Here are a few images from the Open Day Photo-booth where some core Group volunteers of the Project also took part. Some portraits and a mementos. All person/s featured shared a connection with Chilton School and wanted to be part of the project. The mementos brought, although only few, were significant in sentimental value but also depicted an era of the school reflecting educational achievements and activities of it's history, and a Scrap Book in particular that captured students past having the time of their life; shaping life long friends and teachers past that have been inspirational and remembered.

Chilton Trinity Open Day Saturday 05 March 2011

Lots of work went into setting up the Open Day, a huge credit to all the intergenerational volunteers for making the day happen.
Thank you too to all our visitors who came with scrapbooks, newspaper clippings, old school photos, trophies and more!  It was fascinating to see the mementoes and the connections between people - old classmates, teachers and students from 30 years ago, multiple family generations who had all attended the school, future students coming to learn a bit about their new school, also a past student now living in America.

The tours were very popular with long waiting lists.  Many people wanted to have a last look round their old school before it is replaced.  Many memories and stories emerged as people once again walked familiar corridors and viewed the plans for the new building.

The memory wall grew as visitors recalled times past and items were added to our timeline.
Photographer Laura Rouse, assisted by Portia Saunders and Nisha Haq, was very busy in the photo booth taking some stunning photographs of visitors.

Chilton Memories - Nisha Haq Photography

Hi Everyone

Well Saturday 5th March was a success and Laura Rouse managed to capture great photos from the photo booth session on the day. It was a fun day and achieved nostalgia amongst visitors. Various people brought in mementoes that Portia and I photographed to document and when I had spare time I managed to take a few shots of what was happening to post here!

This photo was taken of the Chilton Memories wall where people wrote their favourite memory of Chilton Trinity. In post-processing this photo I layered various photos of this wall to create this effect and added a gradient layer and a dark gaussian blur. Hope you like it! More snaps of the day to come :D
